Cable Knit Beanie with Faux Fur Pom Pom

This cozy beanie features beautiful cable stitches and is topped with a soft faux fur pom pom for a trendy look. Perfect for those chilly days!

Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn (approx. 200 yards) in lavender
  • Size 8 (5mm) circular knitting needles (16-inch length)
  • Size 8 (5mm) double-pointed needles
  • Faux fur pom pom (approx. 4 inches in diameter)
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch markers

Gauge

15 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.

Abbreviations

  • CO: Cast On
  • K: Knit
  • P: Purl
  • K2tog: Knit two stitches together
  • P2tog: Purl two stitches together
  • MP: Marker Place
  • Dec: Decrease

Instructions

Cast On

  1. Using the circular needles, CO 80 stitches. Use a stretchy cast-on method to allow ease when wearing the hat.

Ribbing

  1. Join in the round, being careful not to twist your stitches. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
  2. Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 2 inches.

Main Body (Cable Stitch)

  1. Change to stockinette stitch (knit every round) for 2 inches.
  2. Begin cable pattern as follows:
    • Round 1: K12, C4F (Cable 4 Front), K12
    • Round 2: K all around
    • Round 3: K12, C4F, K12
    • Repeat rounds 2 and 3 until work measures 6 inches from CO edge.

Crown Decreases

  1. Begin decreases:
    • Round 1: K10, K2tog, K12, C4F, K12, K2tog
    • Round 2: K all around
    • Round 3: K9, K2tog, K12, C4F, K12, K2tog
    • Continue decreasing in this manner until 20 stitches remain.
    • Cut the yarn leaving a long tail. Thread the yarn through remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat.

Finishing

  1. Weave in any loose ends using the yarn needle.
  2. Attach the faux fur pom pom to the top of the hat securely.
  3. Block the hat gently if needed to even out stitches.
