- Size 8 (5mm) knitting needles.
- Scissors.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge
4 stitches per inch in garter stitch.
Abbreviations
- CO: Cast On
- K: Knit
- St(s): Stitch(es)
- WS: Wrong Side
- RS: Right Side
- BO: Bind Off
Instructions
- CO 30 stitches using the first color (yellow). This will be the size of your coaster. Make sure your stitches are not too tight.
- Row 1: Knit every stitch across the row (30 stitches). This establishes the garter stitch pattern.
- Repeat Row 1 until your piece measures 4 inches from the cast-on edge (approximately 10 rows).
- Change to the second color (green) and continue knitting every row until you have again knitted 4 inches in green (another 10 rows).
- Switch to the third color (white with flecks) and knit for 4 more inches (another 10 rows).
- Finally, change to the fourth color (cream) and knit the last 4 inches (10 rows).
- BO all stitches loosely. Cut yarn, leaving a tail of about 6 inches.
- Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle. Ensure there are no loose ends showing so your work is neat.
- Repeat the above steps for as many coasters as you would like to make, mixing and matching the order of colors if desired.
Finishing
Once all your coasters are complete, lay them flat to block if needed. Enjoy using your beautiful handmade coasters or gifting them to loved ones!
