Finished Size:

12 inches by 12 inches

Abbreviations:

• ch - chain
• sc - single crochet
• hdc - half double crochet
• dc - double crochet
• tr - treble crochet
• dtr - double treble crochet
• st(s) - stitch(es)
• sk - skip

Instructions:

1. With the darkest shade, ch 50.
2. Row 1: In the 4th ch from hook, work a dc. *Sk 1 ch, dc in next ch, ch 1, dc in same ch*, repeat from * to * across, ending with a dc in last ch. Turn.
3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), *ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next dc*, repeat from * to * across, ending with a dc in the top of starting ch-3. Turn.
4. Rows 3-8: Repeat Row 2, changing colors gradually from darkest to lightest shade to achieve ombre effect. Turn.
5. Row 9: With the lightest shade, repeat Row 2. Turn.
6. Row 10: With the lightest shade, ch 2, hdc in each st and ch-1 sp across. Turn.
7. Border: Change to the darkest shade, work sc evenly around the entire square, placing 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off and weave in ends.
