Center Motif
Start with a magic ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 15 dc into the ring, join with sl st to top of ch-3. (16 dc)
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 5, skip next dc, *sc in next dc, ch 5, skip next dc*; repeat from * to * around, join with sl st to first sc. (8 ch-5 spaces)
Round 3: Sl st to first ch-5 space, sc in ch-5 space, *ch 3, sc in next ch-5 space*; repeat from * to * around, join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
Outer Lace Pattern
Join thread to any ch-3 space.
Round 1: *Ch 5, sc in next ch-3 space*, repeat around, join with sl st to first ch of ch-5 (8 ch-5 spaces).
Round 2: *Ch 3, sc in next ch-5 space, ch 8 (handles the handle part of the parasol)*, repeat around, join with sl st to first ch-3.
Continue with ch-3 and sc in spaces to build the lace outward until it reaches the edge of the parasol frame.
Attach to Frame
Evenly spread the lace over the parasol frame.
Use stitch markers to hold in place. Sew the lace to the frame using matching thread and a tapestry needle.
Secure tightly, especially at the points where the structure opens and closes.
