Striped Bear Toy Pattern

This charming striped bear toy is not only adorable but also a wonderful beginner project for new knitters. Loaded with rich colors, it's perfect for snuggling and playing. Follow the steps to knit your very own!

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn in teal (approx. 100g)
  • Worsted weight yarn in olive green (approx. 100g)
  • Worsted weight yarn in brown (for the nose and paws, approx. 30g)
  • Knitting needles (US size 8, 5mm)
  • Yarn needle for sewing
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • Scissors

Gauge:

18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.

Abbreviations:

  • k = knit
  • p = purl
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • CO = cast on
  • BO = bind off
  • RS = right side
  • WS = wrong side
  • inc = increase
  • dec = decrease

Instructions:

Body:

  1. Using teal yarn, CO 28 sts.
  2. Work in stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row) for 10 rows.
  3. Change to olive green and continue for 10 rows.
  4. Repeat the teal and olive green stripes as follows: 10 rows of teal, 10 rows of olive green, for a total of 5 stripes (20 rows each). Bind off. You should have a total of 100 rows for the body.

Head:

  1. CO 24 sts using teal yarn.
  2. Work in stockinette stitch for 16 rows.
  3. Change to olive green yarn and knit for another 8 rows.
  4. Next row: (k2, k2tog) across (18 sts). Next row: purl.
  5. Continue decreasing every other row until you have 12 sts remaining.
  6. BO and leave a long tail for sewing. Pull stitches tight and gather.

Arms (make 2):

  1. Using teal yarn, CO 12 sts.
  2. Work in stockinette for 10 rows.
  3. Change to olive green and work for another 10 rows. Bind off.

Legs (make 2):

  1. Using teal yarn, CO 16 sts.
  2. Work in stockinette for 12 rows.
  3. Change to olive green and work for another 12 rows. Bind off.

Ears (make 2):

  1. Using olive green yarn, CO 8 sts. Work for 6 rows in stockinette. Bind off.

Nose:

  1. Using brown yarn, CO 6 sts and work in stockinette for 4 rows. Bind off.

Assembly:

  • Stuff the body with fiberfill using your fingers to push it in.
  • Sew the head onto the body, ensuring it is securely attached.
  • Attach the arms on either side of the body just below the head.
  • Sew the legs onto the bottom of the body.
  • For the ears, position them on top of the head and secure them well.
  • Attach the nose to the front of the face; sew any remaining features like the eyes if desired.
