Materials Needed

Before you begin, gather the following supplies. All yarn and needle specifications are based on the original design.

Yarn

  • Worsted weight yarn (Category 4). Shown in:
    • Color A (Main): Lion Brand Wool-Ease in 'Fisherman' (80% acrylic, 20% wool; 197 yds / 180 m per 85 g skein) – 1 skein.
    • Color B (Contrast): Lion Brand Wool-Ease in 'Cranberry' (80% acrylic, 20% wool; 197 yds / 180 m per 85 g skein) – 1 skein.

Needles & Notions

  • Knitting Needles: US Size 7 (4.5 mm) – straight or circular for working flat.
  • Cable needle (optional, but helpful).
  • Tapestry needle for weaving ends and seaming.

Gauge

20 stitches x 26 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch, after blocking. Achieving gauge ensures your cozy fits a standard mug.

Assembly

  1. Attach Ribbing to Panels: Place one Heart Panel and one Ribbed Edging piece together, right sides facing. Using Color B and tapestry needle, sew the ribbed edging to the top of the heart panel (the cast-on edge of the ribbing to the BO edge of the heart panel). Repeat for the other heart panel and ribbed edging for the bottom.
  2. Seam the Sides: Place the two assembled pieces together, right sides facing. Sew the side seams, leaving a 1.5-inch opening at the bottom on one side for the mug handle. Turn right side out.
  3. Optional Closure: Sew a small button or loop closure on the open side for a snug fit.
  4. Blocking: Block gently to shape. This evens out the stitches and gives the cable pattern a beautiful, defined look.

Your Ember Glow Tea Cozy is now ready to keep your favorite mug warm and stylish. Enjoy the handmade touch it brings to your tea time!
