Honeycomb Pattern (multiple of 4 + 2 stitches):

- Row 2 (WS): *P2, K2; repeat from * to last 2 sts, P2.
- Row 3 (RS): *P2, K2; repeat from * to last 2 sts, P2.
- Row 4 (WS): *K2, P2; repeat from * to last 2 sts, K2.
- Repeat Rows 1-4 for pattern.
Toe (Worked Flat)
- With MC, cast on 8 stitches.
- Row 1 (RS): K1, M1L, K6, M1R, K1 (10 sts). Tip: M1L (Make 1 Left) and M1R (Make 1 Right) are invisible increases that prevent holes. To M1L, pick up the bar between stitches from front to back and knit through the back loop. To M1R, pick up the bar from back to front and knit through the front loop.
- Row 2 (WS): Purl all stitches.
- Row 3: K1, M1L, K8, M1R, K1 (12 sts).
- Row 4: Purl all stitches.
- Continue increasing in this manner (K1, M1L, knit to last st, M1R, K1 on RS rows; purl on WS rows) until you have 24 [28] stitches. End with a WS row. This creates a rounded, seamless toe that comfortably fits little feet.
Foot (Worked Flat)
- Begin Honeycomb Pattern across all 24 [28] stitches. Work even in pattern until the piece measures 5.5 [6.5] inches from the toe, ending with a WS row. This section forms the main body of the slipper, providing the plush, textured comfort.
Heel (Worked Flat)
- Heel flap: Work in stockinette stitch (knit on RS, purl on WS) over the first 12 [14] stitches only, leaving the remaining 12 [14] stitches on a holder or spare needle. Work back and forth for 12 [14] rows, ending with a WS row. This creates a sturdy, reinforced heel that will withstand wear and tear.
- Turn heel:
- Row 1 (RS): K7 [8], SSK, K1, turn. SSK (Slip, Slip, Knit) is a left-leaning decrease. Slip two stitches knitwise one at a time, then insert the left needle into the front of both slipped stitches and knit them together.
- Row 2 (WS): P3 [4], P2tog, P1, turn. P2tog (Purl Two Together) is a right-leaning decrease. Insert the right needle through two stitches as if to purl and purl them together.
- Row 3 (RS): K4 [5], SSK, K1, turn.
- Row 4 (WS): P5 [6], P2tog, P1, turn.
- Continue in this manner, working one more stitch before the decrease each time, until all heel stitches are worked. You will have 8 [10] stitches remaining. End with a WS row. This technique shapes the heel to cup the foot perfectly, ensuring a snug and comfortable fit.
Gusset and Foot Top
- With RS facing, pick up and knit 8 [9] stitches along the side of the heel flap. Place a marker. Knit across the 12 [14] held instep stitches. Pick up and knit 8 [9] stitches along the other side of the heel flap. You now have 36 [42] stitches on the needle. Picking up stitches creates the gusset, which shapes the slipper around the ankle and instep.
- Row 1 (WS): Purl all stitches.
- Row 2 (RS): Knit to 3 stitches before the marker, K2tog, K1, slip marker, knit across instep stitches, slip marker, K1, SSK, knit to end. (Decrease 2 stitches) K2tog (Knit Two Together) is a right-leaning decrease. Insert the right needle through two stitches as if to knit and knit them together.
- Repeat Rows 1-2 until you have 24 [28] stitches remaining. End with a WS row. This gradual decrease ensures a smooth, comfortable fit around the ankle.
Leg (Worked Flat)
