Cozy Purple Knit Beanie Pattern
This detailed pattern will guide you through creating a lovely beanie in a soft purple yarn. Great for beginners!
Materials Needed:
- Medium weight yarn (approximately 150 yards) in purple tones
- US size 8 (5.0mm) knitting needles (circular or double-pointed)
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch. Adjust needle size if necessary to match gauge.
Abbreviations:
- k - knit
- p - purl
- st(s) - stitch(es)
- CO - cast on
- BO - bind off
Instructions:
Cast On:
- Using your size 8 needles, CO 80 stitches.
Ribbing: (Cuff)
- Row 1: (RS) *k2, p2; repeat from * to end of row.
- Row 2: (WS) *p2, k2; repeat from * to end of row.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for a total of 8 rows. This forms the ribbed cuff.
Body of Hat:
- Switch to stockinette stitch (knit every row) and continue until the hat measures 5 inches from the cast-on edge.
Decreasing for the Crown:
- Row 1: (RS) K8, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row. (72 sts)
- Row 2: (WS) Knit all stitches.
- Row 3: (RS) K7, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row. (64 sts)
- Row 4: (WS) Knit all stitches.
- Row 5: (RS) K6, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row. (56 sts)
- Row 6: (WS) Knit all stitches.
- Row 7: (RS) K5, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row. (48 sts)
- Row 8: (WS) Knit all stitches.
- Row 9: (RS) K4, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row. (40 sts)
- Row 10: (WS) Knit all stitches.
- Row 11: (RS) K3, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row. (32 sts)
- Row 12: (WS) Knit all stitches.
- Row 13: (RS) K2, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row. (24 sts)
- Row 14: (WS) Knit all stitches.
- Row 15: (RS) K1, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row. (16 sts)
- Row 16: (WS) Knit all stitches.
- Row 17: (RS) k2tog all around. (8 sts)
Finishing:
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the stitches remaining on the needle and pull tight to close the top of the hat.
- Weave in all ends with a tapestry needle.
- Block the hat if desired to help shape and even out the stitches.
