Instructions

  1. Cast On: CO 80 stitches using the long tail method onto your needles.
  2. Join in the Round: Carefully join the stitches in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches. Place a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of the round.
  3. Ribbing: Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 10 rounds. This will form a stretchy cuff.
  4. Main Body: After finishing the ribbing, switch to stockinette stitch (knitting every round) and continue for 6 inches. You should be knitting smooth rounds without purling at this point.
  5. Decreasing: Begin decreasing for the crown of the beanie:
    • Round 1: *K8, K2tog* repeat from * to * around. (72 stitches total)
    • Round 2: Knit all stitches.
    • Round 3: *K7, K2tog* repeat from * to * around. (64 stitches total)
    • Round 4: Knit all stitches.

    • Round 8: Knit all stitches.
    • Round 9: *K4, K2tog* repeat from * to * around. (40 stitches total)
    • Round 10: Knit all stitches.
    • Round 11: *K3, K2tog* repeat from * to * around. (32 stitches total)
    • Round 12: Knit all stitches.
    • Round 13: *K2, K2tog* repeat from * to * around. (24 stitches total)
    • Round 14: Knit all stitches.
    • Round 15: *K1, K2tog* repeat from * to * around. (16 stitches total)
    • Round 16: K2tog around. (8 stitches total)
  6. Finishing: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Use the tapestry needle to thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the beanie. Weave in any loose ends and block if desired.
