Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in light grey, red, beige, and white
• Crochet hook size H (5 mm)

Pattern

Right Mitten

1. Cuff:
   • With grey yarn, ch 11. Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and each ch across, turn. (10 sts)
   • Rows 2-20: Ch 1, sc in back loops only across, turn.
   • Fold cuff in half and sl st ends together to form a loop.
2. Hand:
   • Rnd 1: Sc around the edge of the cuff, placing 1 sc in each row end. Join with sl st. (20 sts)
   • Rnd 2–15: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join.
   • Rnd 16: Ch 1, sc in next 10 sts, skip 5 sts for thumb hole, sc in last 5 sts, join.
3. Top Shaping:
   • Rnd 17: *Sc in next 3 sts, dec over next 2 sts; repeat from * around, join.
   • Rnd 18: *Sc in next 2 sts, dec over next 2 sts; repeat from * around, join.

Gnome Appliqué

1. Hat:
   • With red yarn, ch 2.
   • Rnd 1: 5 sc in second ch from hook.
   • Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (10 sts)
   • Rnd 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around. (15 sts)
   • Rnd 4: Sc in each st around. Fasten off.
2. Face:
   • With beige yarn, ch 2.
   • Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook.
   • Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts) Fasten off.
3. Beard:
   • Cut several strands of white yarn to approximately 2 inches.
   • Fold each strand in half and using a tapestry needle, attach them in a line below the face by pulling the loop through a stitch, then pulling the ends through the loop.

Assembly

Sew hat and face onto mitten as shown in the image, with the face at the base of the mitten top and the hat pointing up. Trim beard to desired length. Repeat for second mitten.
