Gauge:

16 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in single crochet. Note: Gauge is not critical for this project.

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • inc: increase (2 sc in one stitch)
  • dec: decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)

Instructions:

Head:

  1. With your blue yarn, make a magic ring.
  2. Round 1: 6 sc into the magic ring. (6 stitches)
  3. Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12 stitches)
  4. Round 3: *Sc in the next stitch, inc in the next stitch*; repeat from * to * around. (18 stitches)

Ears (make 2):

  1. With blue yarn, ch 4.
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch. (3 stitches)
  3. Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc. (2 stitches)
  4. Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Dec. (1 stitch)
  5. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Body:

  1. With blue yarn, make a magic ring.
  2. Round 1: 6 sc into the magic ring. (6 stitches)
  3. Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12 stitches)
  4. Round 3: *Sc in the next stitch, inc*; repeat from * to * around. (18 stitches)
  5. Round 4-7: Sc in each stitch around. (18 stitches)

  7. Round 9: Dec around. (6 stitches)
  8. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly:

  1. Stuff the head and body lightly with fiberfill.
  2. Using the long tails, sew the head to the body securely.
  3. Attach the ears to the top sides of the head, sewing them securely with the yarn tail.
  4. Using contrasting yarn, sew two small circles for eyes and a small line for the mouth.
