Crochet Textured Twisted Square Potholder
This potholder is worked in two pieces and features a fun twisted stitch that gives it a unique texture. Once completed, the two pieces are joined together to form a thick protective layer. Perfect for beginners!
Materials Needed:
- Light worsted weight cotton yarn (#3 or double knit)
- 4.0 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Stitches Used:
- Chain (ch)
- Slip Stitch (sl st)
- Single Crochet (sc)
- Twisted Stitch (twst)
Pattern Instructions:
Base Piece (Make 2)
- Ch 28.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across (27 sc).
- Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Twst in each sc across (27 twst).
- Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each twst across (27 sc).
- Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until the piece measures 8 inches square, ending with Row 3.
- Fasten off and weave in ends.
Joining the Two Pieces
- Place the two pieces together with the right sides facing each other.
- Using the cotton yarn, join with a sl st, working through the stitches of both layers.
- Continue to sc around the perimeter, working 3 sc in each corner for a rounded finish.
- Leave a small gap to turn the potholder inside out.
- Turn the potholder right side out, then close the gap with sc.
- Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Finishing Touch
Add a small loop for hanging by chaining 10, tying it to one corner of the potholder with a few secure stitches.
