Crochet Textured Twisted Square Potholder

This potholder is worked in two pieces and features a fun twisted stitch that gives it a unique texture. Once completed, the two pieces are joined together to form a thick protective layer. Perfect for beginners!

Materials Needed:

  • Light worsted weight cotton yarn (#3 or double knit)
  • 4.0 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip Stitch (sl st)
  • Single Crochet (sc)
  • Twisted Stitch (twst)

Pattern Instructions:

Base Piece (Make 2)

  1. Ch 28.
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across (27 sc).
  3. Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Twst in each sc across (27 twst).
  4. Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each twst across (27 sc).
  5. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until the piece measures 8 inches square, ending with Row 3.
  6. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Joining the Two Pieces

  1. Place the two pieces together with the right sides facing each other.
  2. Using the cotton yarn, join with a sl st, working through the stitches of both layers.
  3. Continue to sc around the perimeter, working 3 sc in each corner for a rounded finish.
  4. Leave a small gap to turn the potholder inside out.
  5. Turn the potholder right side out, then close the gap with sc.
  6. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Finishing Touch

Add a small loop for hanging by chaining 10, tying it to one corner of the potholder with a few secure stitches.
