Whimsical Flora-Inspired Asymmetrical Shawl

Materials:

  • Yarn: 3 skeins of DK weight yarn in 3 harmonious colors (Color A, Color B, Color C)
  • Crochet Hook: 4.5 mm (G-6)
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors

Gauge:

16 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches in double crochet (adjust hook size if necessary)

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • st = stitch
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sk = skip
  • sp = space

Pattern Instructions:

Row 1: With Color A, ch 4, turn the chain into a ring with a sl st. In the ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc), then work 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc. Turn (5 dc, 2 ch-sp)

Row 2: Ch 3, turn, dc in the next 2 dc, *(ch 1, sk 1 dc, 3 dc in next ch-sp)*; repeat from * to * until you reach the end. Content in the last sp with 3 dc, ch 1, sk last dc, dc in the last st. Turn (total 10 dc, 3 ch-sp)

Row 3: Change to Color B, repeat Row 2, increasing 3 dc in the last ch-sp. Turn.

Row 4: Change to Color C, repeat Row 2, ensuring that you continue to grow the number of dc between the spaces as you progress (3 dc added in each section until the end).

Continue this process until your shawl reaches about 60 inches in length or desired size, alternating colors as you like.

Finishing:

Once the desired size is achieved, fasten off and weave in any loose ends. Lightly block your shawl to open up the lace pattern and enhance the gradient effect.

Enjoy wearing your beautiful, whimsical shawl inspired by the flora around you!
