Chunky Knit Scarf
Chunky Knit Scarf Pattern
Materials:
- Super bulky yarn (approximately 200 yards in soft gray)
- US size 15 (10 mm) circular knitting needles, 30 inches long
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge:
10 stitches and 14 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch using super bulky yarn.
Abbreviations:
- CO = Cast On
- K = Knit
- P = Purl
- St(s) = Stitch(es)
- BO = Bind Off
Instructions:
Step 1: Start by casting on 20 stitches (or more, depending on desired width). Make sure the stitches are loose enough to not restrict the fabric's stretch.
Step 2: Row 1: Knit every stitch across the row (K). You will be creating a garter stitch which gives the scarf a nice texture.
Step 3: Row 2: Continue to knit every stitch across (K). Repeat this for a total of 30 rows, or until the scarf reaches your desired length of approximately 60 inches.
Step 4: To finish the scarf, bind off all stitches loosely to ensure the edge isn't tight. To bind off, knit the first two stitches, then use the left needle to lift the first stitch over the second, dropping it off the needle. Knit another stitch and repeat the process until you've bound off all stitches.
Step 5: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail (about 8 inches). Use the tapestry needle to weave in the ends neatly through the back of the knit fabric.
Final Touch: Give your scarf a gentle stretch and block it lightly to enhance the shape. Enjoy wearing or gifting your cozy, handmade chunky knit scarf!
