Colorful Granny Square Blanket

Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in the following colors:

Instructions

Making the Granny Squares

1. Start with a slip knot on your hook and chain 4. Join to the first chain with a slip stitch to form a ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 2 dc in the ring, ch 2, *3 dc in the ring, ch 2; repeat from * two more times, join with a sl st to the top of the starting ch 3. (You will have 4 corner spaces.)
3. Round 2: Slip stitch into the first ch-2 space, ch 3, work 2 dc in the same space, ch 2, work 3 dc in the same space (this makes your first corner). In the next ch-2 space, work 3 dc. Repeat this for all corners and sides, then join with a sl st to the top of the starting ch 3.
4. Round 3: Slip stitch into the first ch-2 space, ch 3, work 2 dc in the same space, ch 2, work 3 dc in the same space (first corner). In the next 2 ch-2 spaces, work 3 dc in each. In each corner space, work 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc. Join as before.
5. Continue to make granny squares until you have a total of 20 squares. You can make more or fewer depending on the size you want.

Joining the Squares

1. Lay out your squares in a pattern that you like.
2. Using a tapestry needle and a length of yarn, whip stitch the squares together along their edges. Make sure to line them up properly.
3. Once all squares are joined, weave in any loose ends with the tapestry needle.

Border

1. With your chosen border color (blue recommended), attach yarn to any corner of the blanket.
2. Ch 1, sc evenly around the entire blanket, placing 3 sc in each corner.
3. After one round, you can add a second round of your preferred border stitch if desired.
4. Fasten off and weave in ends.
