Materials
- Yarn: 100% cotton yarn in natural/cream color (about 300-400 yards)
- Crochet Hook: Size H/8 (5.0 mm)
- Stitch Marker
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle
- Optional: Faux leather straps (for handles)
Gauge
10 double crochets (dc) and 6 rows = 4 inches in pattern.
Abbreviations
- ch - chain
- sc - single crochet
- dc - double crochet
- sl st - slip stitch
- st - stitch
Instructions
- Foundation Row: Ch 4. Join with a sl st to form a ring.
- Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 11 dc into the ring. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. (12 dc total)
- Round 2: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. (24 dc total)
- Round 3: Ch 3, *1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. (36 dc total)
- Round 4: Ch 3, (1 dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next st) around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. (48 dc total)
- Body of Bag: Continue working in the round without increasing until the bag measures about 10 inches from the bottom (approximately 27 rounds).
- Top Trim: Work 1 round of sc around the edge for a neat finish. Join with sl st.
- Handles: If using faux leather straps, sew them onto the bag at the desired length or create crochet handles by chaining and attaching them at each side.
- Weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle.
Finishing Touches
You can customize your bag by adding a lining, or decorative details such as tassels or beads. This bag can be made larger or smaller by adjusting the number of rounds for the body.
