Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn in cream, mustard, teal, rust, and brown
  • Crochet hook size H/5.0 mm
  • Yarn needle
  • 4 wooden buttons (1 inch)

Gauge

4 squares = 4 inches using granny square pattern.

Instructions

Granny Squares

Make 20 squares using the following pattern:

  1. Magic ring, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc, ch 2, (3 dc, ch 2) 3 times into ring. Join with sl st to top of beg ch-3.
  2. Sl st to first ch-2 space, ch 3, 2 dc in same space, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 space, ch 1; repeat from * 2 more times, 3 dc in first ch-2 space. Join with sl st.
  3. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Body

Join squares: 4 for the hood, 4 for each sleeve, and 8 for the body using your preferred method.

Join the Squares

Seam squares together for the back and hood, and then join the front squares to form armholes.

Crochet Rows

Using cream yarn, work dc rows along the body and sleeves to desired length, alternating colors as shown for stripe effect.

Hood

Seam 4 squares together forming a square. Fold in half and seam one edge to create hood shape.

Button Panel

  1. Attach mustard yarn to the left front edge.
  2. Work sc evenly along the edge, 1 row.
  3. Repeat for one more row, making buttonholes evenly spaced in second row.

Finishing

Sew buttons to align with buttonholes. Weave in all ends. Block to shape.
