Materials Needed:

• DK weight yarn in Red and White
• Crochet hook size 3.5mm
• Tapestry needle
• Stitch markers (optional)
• Scissors
• Pompom maker

Gauge: 8 sc x 9 rows = 2 inches

Stitches Used:

• ch - chain
• sc - single crochet
• sc2tog - single crochet two together

Instructions:

Brim:

1. With White yarn, ch 45. Join with a sl st to form a ring. (Make sure not to twist the chain.)
2. Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (45 sc)
3. Rounds 2-5: Ch 1, sc in back loop only in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Hat Body:

6. Switch to Red yarn.
7. Rounds 6-10: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
8. Round 11: Ch 1, *sc in the next 8 sts, sc2tog* repeat from * to * around. (40 sc)
9. Round 12: Ch 1, sc in each st around.
10. Round 13: Ch 1, *sc in the next 7 sts, sc2tog* repeat from * to * around. (36 sc)
11. Round 14: Ch 1, sc in each st around.
12. Continue decreasing in this manner, reducing 4 stitches every alternate round until you have 12 sts remaining.
13. Next Round: Ch 1, sc2tog around. (6 sc)
14. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
15. Weave the tail through the remaining sts and pull to close the top tightly. Secure and weave in ends.

Pompom:

16. Using the White yarn and a pompom maker, create a pompom approximately 2 inches in diameter.
