Whimsical Woodland Fox Hat Free Pattern

Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in orange, white, and black (approx. 200 yards total)
- 5.0 mm (H) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Stitch marker (optional)
- Safety eyes (optional)

Gauge:
4 inches = 12 double crochets and 7 rows (adjust accordingly to fit).

Instructions:

Base of the Hat:

1. Start with a magic ring, ch 2 (counts as first dc), and work 11 dc into the ring. Pull tight and join with a slip stitch (12 dc).
2. Round 2: Ch 2, dc in the same stitch, 2 dc in each stitch around. Join (24 dc).
3. Round 3: Ch 2, *dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch*, repeat around. Join (36 dc).
4. Round 4-8: Ch 2, dc in each stitch around. Join. (36 dc).
5. Round 9: Change to white yarn. Ch 2, dc in each stitch around. Join. (36 dc).
6. Round 10: Ch 2, dc in each stitch around but switch to orange yarn at the end of the round. Join.
7. Round 11-15: Repeat Round 8 with orange yarn. (36 dc).

Shape the Ears:

Make 2:

1. Ch 8, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 3 ch. Join with a slip stitch to form a triangle.
2. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Add Details:

1. Sew the ears onto the top sides of the hat, spaced evenly.
2. Embroider a small black nose and mouth using black yarn.
3. If using safety eyes, attach them to the hat on either side of the nose.

Finishing Touch:

1. Weave in all ends and block the hat if necessary.
2. Your whimsical fox hat is complete!
