Simple Brown Sweater
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn, 700-900 yards (approximately 640-825 meters) in a brown color
- Knitting needles size 8 US (5 mm) for main body and size 6 US (4 mm) for ribbing
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Stitch markers
- Scissors
Gauge
19 stitches and 26 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- St: Stitch
- CO: Cast On
- BO: Bind Off
- RS: Right Side
- WS: Wrong Side
- Inc: Increase
- Dec: Decrease
- rnd: Round
Instructions
Body
- With size 8 needles, CO 100 stitches.
- Knit 1 round (ribbing round).
- Continue in stockinette stitch (knit all rounds) until the piece measures 20 inches from the CO edge.
- To shape the armholes: On the next round, K2tog (knit two together) at the beginning, and then knit to the last two stitches, K2tog. Repeat this every 4th round until you have 90 stitches remaining.
Yoke
- Continue to knit straight until the yoke measures 25 inches.
- Begin raglan shaping: On each right side row, knit to the last 2 stitches of the yoke, K2tog to decrease at the raglan seams.
Neckline
- Switch to size 6 needles and continue in ribbing (K1, P1) for 1.5 inches.
- BO loosely.
Sleeves
- Pick up and knit 50 stitches around the armhole using size 8 needles.
- Knit for 15 inches, then switch to size 6 needles to work in ribbing for 1.5 inches.
- BO loosely.
Finishing
- Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
- Block the sweater gently to shape it if desired.
