Simple Knit Scarf
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn (approximately 200 yards in mustard color)
- Size 8 (5.0 mm) knitting needles
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge
20 stitches and 26 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations
- CO - Cast On
- K - Knit
- P - Purl
- BO - Bind Off
Instructions
- CO 30 stitches: Use the long tail method to cast on 30 stitches onto your left needle.
- Row 1: K1, P1 across the row (this will create a textured ribbing).
- Row 2: K1, P1 across the row.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2: Continue this pattern until your scarf measures approximately 60 inches long, or your desired length. This typically takes about 70 rows.
- Final Row: Knit across the last row (this helps to bind off with a more finished edge).
- BO: Bind off all stitches loosely to avoid a tight edge. To bind off, knit two stitches, then pass the first stitch over the second and off the needle. Continue this way until all stitches are bound off.
- Finish: Cut yarn, leaving a long tail, and pull the tail through the last stitch to secure it. Weave in any loose ends with your tapestry needle.
Care Instructions
Hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry. This will help maintain the scarf's shape and texture.
