Wavy Crochet Storage Basket Pattern

Materials

  • Rope or thick cotton yarn in black (1 ball)
  • Rope or thick cotton yarn in white (1 ball)
  • Crochet hook size 10mm
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving ends

Gauge

10 stitches and 6 rows = 4 inches in single crochet; however, gauge is not critical for this project.

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st(s) = stitch(es)

Instructions

  1. Foundation Row: With white yarn, make a slip knot and ch 30. This will be the base of your basket.
  2. Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each ch across (29 sc). You will have created the base of your basket.
  3. Row 2: Ch 1 and turn your work. Sc in the first st, then switch to black yarn. Continue to sc in each st across (29 sc). Change back to white yarn at the end of the row.
  4. Row 3: Ch 1, turn. With the white yarn, sc in each st across. This will create the first row of the zig-zag pattern.
  5. Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in the first st, and switch to black yarn. Sc across. Change back to white at the end.
  6. Continue Pattern: Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until your work measures approximately 8 inches high. You should see a lovely alternating black and white zig-zag pattern developing.
  7. Shaping the Basket: Once you reach the desired height, ch 1 and continue to work sc in each st for the next two rows to create a sturdy top edge.
  8. Finishing: To bind off, cut the yarn leaving a long tail, pull the yarn through the last loop and tighten. Weave in all ends using the yarn needle.
