Festive Reindeer Socks

Materials

• Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (4) in the following colors:
  • White - 100g
  • Orange - 50g
  • Brown - 50g
  • Black - 50g
• Knitting needles: US size 6 (4 mm) - 5 double-pointed needles (DPNs)
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
• Stitch markers
• Measuring tape

Gauge

20 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch.

Abbreviations

• CO: Cast On

Instructions

Cuff

1. CO 60 stitches using MC onto one DPN.
2. Divide the stitches evenly onto 3 DPNs (20 stitches per needle).
3. Join in the round, being careful not to twist your stitches. Place a stitch marker to denote the beginning of the round.
4. Work in 1x1 ribbing (k1, p1) for 10 rounds.

Leg

1. Switch to stockinette stitch (knit all rounds) and continue for 20 rounds.
2. Begin reindeer chart. Follow the color chart using CC to create the reindeer, changing colors as needed.
3. Continue until the leg measures 7 inches from the cast-on edge.

Heel Flap

1. Divide your stitches in half. Place 30 stitches on one DPN for the heel flap, and leave the rest on hold.
2. Work back and forth in rows: (RS) *k1, p1* across the row for 10 rows.
3. Turn your work. (WS) *k1, p1* across the row for another 10 rows, continuing the same ribbing pattern.

Turn Heel

1. Continuing on the heel flap, work the following:
   • Row 1 (RS): k18, k2tog, k1, turn.
   • Row 2 (WS): p3, p2tog, p1, turn.
   • Row 3: k to 1 stitch before the gap, k2tog, k1, turn.
   • Row 4: p to 1 stitch before the gap, p2tog, p1, turn.
2. Continue this process until you have a total of 20 stitches remaining on the needle (10 on each side).

Pick Up Stitches for Gusset

1. With the heel facing you, pick up 15 stitches along the side of the heel flap.
2. Rejoin to original stitches from the leg, making sure the work is still in the round.
3. At this point, you will have 75 stitches total (30 for the front, 30 for the heel, 15 for the gusset).

Gusset Decrease

1. Round 1: Knit until you have 3 stitches left on the first DPN, k2tog, knit the rest.
2. Round 2: Knit around all stitches until the end of the round.
3. Repeat these two rounds until you are back to 60 stitches.

Foot

1. Continue knitting in the round using stockinette stitch until the foot measures 7 inches from the heel.

1. Begin toe decrease:
   • Round 1: *k7, k2tog* repeat until the end of the round.
   • Round 2: Knit all stitches.
   • Repeat these two rounds until you have 16 stitches left.
2. Cut the yarn leaving a long tail, thread through remaining stitches and pull tight to close the toe.

Finishing

1. Weave in all ends with a tapestry needle.
2. Block your socks if desired to help the stitches set.
